YDWC President Giacalone’s Statement on the Indictment of former Democratic Party of Illinois Chair

Naperville, Ill. - The following is a statement from Young Democrats of Will County President Tyler Giacalone on the indictment of former Democratic Party of Illinois Chair:

“Events of the last 48 hours serve as a stark reminder of why ‘the old ways’ are no longer a viable option in the Democratic Party. As both voters and elected officials demand a new era of transparency, accountability, and diversity within our party, we must do everything within our power to usher in a new class of Democratic leadership, one that does away with the corrupt practices of the old regime, and instead lives up to the level of accountability demanded not just by the public, but by the ideals of our party.

I, and the entirety of the Young Democrats of Will County, applaud Chairwoman Robin Kelly’s efforts on that front, and implore every elected official in our state to not just follow her lead in ushering in new practices, but also follow her in ushering in a new generation of community leaders whose primary concern is the wellbeing of our state’s residents, and not their own personal status and fortunes. We also ask all our party leaders to heed the lessons of recent events, and empower young activists within the Democratic Party who fight to ensure that not only something like this will never happen again, but also to ensure that the Democratic Party will always be the party that stands for Liberty and Justice.”
